When we began planning ISAF, we knew we needed help from Industry leaders within the Sewing community. We reached out and assembled an advisory board with influential industry leaders who are committed ot the sucsess of ISAF.

Sarah McFarland

Sarah McFarland is the editorial director of Threads magazine. She joined the staff in 2010 and, prior to that, worked as a hometown journalist in Elmira, New York. Threads has been her dream opportunity to combine writing and sewing. Over the years, she has worked with hundreds of talented sewing experts to create technique-driven articles, books, and videos. Threads offers quarterly print magazines, the Threads Insider digital membership through ThreadsMagazine.com, and tutorial products, created for all people who love to sew.
Joe Vecchiarelli

Joe Vecchiarelli has worked in the fashion industry for over 40 years. During his college years, Joe worked in the family business, sharpening scissors for the industry’s top designers. He later graduated from USC’s business program and began to realize that opportunities in the apparel business were unlimited. Mr. Vecchiarelli’s career took another fascinating turn when he made a foray into the entertainment business working in production with shows like Dancing with the Stars and The X Factor. A few years ago, he was approached by NBC to help produce the competitive design talent show, Fashion Star. He accepted, with the challenge to create a successful show more professional than even Project Runway. Presently Mr. Vecchiarelli is ever so busy helping fashion students and enthusiasts grasp their dreams and become successful within the industry.
Rae Cumbie

Rae Cumbie is Creative Director at Fit for Art Patterns whose three core patterns yield one great wardrobe! Her coaching, blog posts, online classes, Threads articles and Sew News fitting column encourages stitchers to sew successfully: adding fun, comfortable, fabulously fitting, artful and creative additions to their wardrobe. Angela Wolf

Angela Wolf, fashion designer and entrepreneur. Angela is the founder and President of Angela Wolf Patterns™ and Angela Wolf Academy™. Host of the PBS series It’s Sew Easy and author of How to Start a Home-Based Fashion Design Business. Online instructor at AW Academy, Fashion Sewing Club, Craftsy, and Patternreview with over 210,000 students worldwide. You can catch Angela live on the social side ever week as host of At Your Side Virtually! for Brother International and Behind the Scenes with Angela Wolf. Angela is a brand ambassador for Brother International, an influencer, consultant, and collaborates with numerous companies.

Angela started sewing at a young age and continued to design women’s apparel all thru college. With an entrepreneurial spirit and passion for fashion and sewing, she launched and ran a successful custom apparel and alteration business for over 18 years. With the success of the It’s Sew Easy tv series, Angela reorganized her business to cater to the home sewer; speaking and teaching and eventually launched Angela Wolf Patterns™ and Angela Wolf Academy™.

She is the winner of 2008 Passion for Fashion, 2012 American Sewing Expo’s teacher of year, and 2016 Industry Contributor of the year. She has been featured in Threads Magazine, Sew News, and Schmetz. Angela resides in SW Michigan and when she is not working in the sewing world, you will find her professionally sportfishing on the Win-n-Angel with her husband, Winn. www.AngelaWolf.com

  Diane and Bruce Magidson

Bruce and Diane Magidson own and operate a fabric company named SewBatik based in Mayville North Dakota. Bruce is a graduate of Rutgers University (1978) and Southwestern University school of Law (1981)

With little passion for the practice of law, Bruce started a career in the textile industry at Los Angeles-based Merry Mary Textiles in 1982. Bruce has remained in the textile industry ever since. Bruce has worked as a buyer for The House of Fabrics and in product development and design capacities for Hi Fashion Fabrics, Erlanger Blumgart and Blank Quilting. 

Diane is a graduate of Mayville State University in Mayville, North Dakota. Diane worked at Deloite Consulting for 14 years as a management consultant specializing in warehouse logistics. Her postings placed Diane at some of the nation’s largest corporations. Fortunately for Bruce, one of the postings was at House of Fabrics where Bruce and Diane met. 

In 2002 Bruce and Diane moved to Diane’s ancestral farm in Mayville, North Dakota and founded SewBatik in 2004. SewBatik is a designer and Importer of batik fabrics from Indonesia. SewBatik products are sold at trade shows, fine fabric quilt shops and on the web at www.SewBatik.com.
Annie Smith

Annie Smith is a national and international Quilting Instructor, who is passionate about garment sewing. She started out sewing for herself at age 8 and by age 16 created a cottage industry sewing for her friends that supported her way through college. Combining quilting techniques with garments is Annie’s favorite challenge. Annie is a BERNINA Ambassador Loyalist, an Aurifil Aurifilosopher, and a LauraStar Ambassador. www.AnnieSmith.net
